Rocklahoma Day 5 Part 1

When BuzzChic woke up this morning and saw the sun shining she knew the last day of Rocklahoma was going to be something special. After last night's scary weather, she knew the crowd at Rocklahoma would be ready to rock. When we got to festival grounds, we were pleasantly surprised to see how quickly the Rocklahoma staff had gotten rid of most of the evidence of last night's storm. Most of the water had been pumped out of the tents and backstage areas and temporary stages had been erected so that the side stage bands could perform. Festival organizers made sure that every band that was scheduled to play did play. Even Lynam, who had the unfortunate timing to take the side stage just before it collapsed, was rescheduled for today.

On the main stage, Axe kicked off the final day. As noted yesterday, we were very upset that we didn't catch Lita's NYPD hat when she threw it into the crowd. As luck would have it, we were snapping pictures at the front of the stage when drumsticks came flying. We caught a stick and, knowing that our Grand Prize winner Chris was a big Axe fan, had it personally autographed and presented to our winner during the Axe interview.

Zebra followed Axe and it was great to see the original trio in a festival setting. As said many times before, this band has a much bigger sound than you would expect from three musicians. You would never know from the set that Randy Jackson (guitar and vocals) was working on three hours of sleep. We were fortunate enough to grab an interview once they left the stage. The band has friends and family in New Orleans and we heard first-hand accounts of the devastation from Hurricane Katrina. We are so happy that this band is loyal to their community and they give back at every chance they get. The HOH lounge even got a surprise visit from Troy Luccketta, Tesla drummer, who decided it would be fun to sit in on the Zebra interview.

The highly-anticipated set by UFO, one of BuzzChic's all-time favorite bands, took the stage and the crowd by storm. Their energy levels (not to mention Phil Mogg's spandex pants) were that of a band twenty years younger. Despite the heat of the day, they never stopped rockin'. They played some of our favorites, including "Mother Mary", "Hard Being Me" and closing with an extended version of "Rock Bottom". After the set, the band was in a rush to hit the road but BuzzChic would not let them leave without a few quick words for House of Hair. We did this as they were loading the bus.

Steelheart came in with one of the best entrances here are Rocklahoma. Only Mili Matijevic could pull off riding a motorcycle onto the stage. Wow - what a grand entrance. This was a hint of what was yet to come from this entertaining band. The songs rocked, the audience rocked and, to sum it up, the whole show rocked. Frontman Mili even went into the crowd and took pictures with fans while singing. They performed some old hits, some songs from the movie Rock Star and the new album "Good 2B Alive". After the show, the band came back to hang out at the HOH lounge. We were lucky enough to get the whole band and they talked about the new CD, new DVD and the expansion of the Steelheart brand. If you stopped by their booth, you could have bought clothes from their new clothing line and their own special blend of coffee.

That was a full first half of our last day at Rocklahoma 2008. BuzzChic will post the second half in her next blog because there is so much to report.
